Gas golf carts can last upward of fifteen years if they are well-maintained, even if they get a lot of regular use. With the growing popularity and variety of use, there are several key tasks you can complete to keep your cart in top shape. Our team at Carts Gone Wild has put together the following tips for taking care of your golf cart.

The Engine

Gas golf carts use on-demand engines, meaning that it only runs when you step on the gas pedal and shuts off when you’re not using the gas. This saves fuel and reduces emissions, but to keep the engine in good shape, you should often check the fuel levels and monitor the system for any leaks.

The Battery

You should also check that no battery cables are fraying and are still tightly connected. Service the spark plugs and air filter when needed, and always make sure the distributor cap does not have excess moisture; if it does, allow it to completely dry out.

The Solenoid

The solenoid is a wire that acts as a magnet to carry an electric current to help start the engine. Good maintenance requires you to routinely check the solenoid, ideally every two months or so. To do so, you’ll need a voltmeter to show how much electricity flows from the ignition to the engine. If it’s a weak voltage, you may be experiencing weak starts, which can harm the battery over time.

Maintaining and caring for your golf cart will give you the best ownership experience possible and keep your cart running for years to come!
